Kitchen Material Checklist

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

Selecting material for your kitchen remodel can quickly become overwhelming and confusing! Use this checklist to make sure you aren't forgetting any crucial elements to your kitchen design!

Cabinetry

When considering what cabinetry you like, think about whether painted or wood in a light or dark tone is best for your space. It is also important to research the difference between all plywood and particle board cabinet boxes and frames. You will also have the option of selecting your cabinet door overlay, inset, traditional or full.

Countertops

Countertops are available in an array of materials, textures, and colors. The most common countertops are granite, quartz and solid surface. Researching the difference in hardness levels and stainability will help narrow down what is best for your use. If you like the idea of a busy backsplash, select a more consistent countertop. If you want an extremely unique and textured countertop, consider a more consistent backsplash.

Backsplash

Backsplash options are endless and come in a variety of natural stone, glass, ceramic or porcelain tiles. Make sure to consider your flooring and countertop options when selecting your backsplash.

Flooring

With so much attention focused on the cabinetry, countertops and backsplashes, flooring choices tend to be simple and consistent in texture. Tile and luxury vinyl planks are the most common materials used in kitchens. Hardwood is also a desired flooring material in kitchens and throughout open concept homes.

Appliances

Traditional appliance suites consist of a range, over the range microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. Consider spicing up your kitchen with a wall double oven, range hood, or microwave drawer!

Sink and Faucet

White farm sinks and stainless undermount sinks are all the current rage, but don’t forget about granite composite and copper! Faucets also come in all shapes and functions, however the most common is the single lever pull down spray faucet.

Hardware

Pulls, handles or knobs, what is in style? Handles on all doors and drawers creates a sleek updated look and tends to be the most common. However the farmhouse look of pulls and knobs is the perfect solution for some homes!

Lighting

Lighting is important to create the perfect ambience for all the uses of your kitchen. Consider undercabinet lighting for tasks, pendant lighting for style or recessed can lights for over all ambiance. Switching each type separately will allow you a variety of lighting options.
